EMPOWERMENT OF AMITABHA BUDDHA

Ven. Lama Kunga Rinpoche has kindly agreed to bestow the Empowerment of Amitabha, the Buddha of the western paradise, Sukhavati.  The empowerment and subsequent practice can assure rebirth in Sukhavati, the Western Pure Land.  One of the five Dhyani Buddhas, Amitabha transmutes desire into discriminating awareness.  Through the practice, one is connected with his power and gains greater clarity in life activities and decisions, especially those related to desire.

INTRODUCTION TO PHOWA

Ven. Lama Kunga Rinpoche will offer an introduction to the practice of Phowa. This is the practice that can be done at the time of death to send one’s consciousness to a Buddhist paradise, such as, Sukhavati, instead of passing through the Bardo.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME.

Potluck Lunch together at about noon.

The Phowa Teaching will begin at 1:00 pm

The requested donation for the day is $40.00.  Dana (offering) to the Lama is separate.

Ven. Lama Kunga Rinpoche will kindly bestow the empowerment and teaching of BLACK MANJUSHRI at Ewam Choden on Sunday, June 24, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. 

Manjushri is the Bodhisattva of transcendental wisdom.  In general, the practice of Manjushri cuts ignorance and delusion, and opens the mind of wisdom.  Additionally, the Black Manjushri, a more wrathful form,  is a powerful force against serious illnesses, obstacles, fears, obscurations, all kinds of negative forces, and a protector of traveling.
 

The requested donation is $30. and dana (personal offering) to the Lama is separate. 
Please arrive early to register, and be considerate of neighbors when parking. 
This event is open to everyone.

COMPLETED – MAITREYA FESTIVAL with BLESSING of Maitreya Buddha-NOV 5TH, 2016 at Tharpa Cho Ling

There will be a Maitreya Festival in Upper Lake, California.  Everyone is welcome

The Maitreya festival will begin at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 5th at Tharpa Cho Ling.  First, Ven. Lama Kunga Rinpoche will kindly bestow a Maitreya Empowerment blessing for which a donation will be requested.  After the empowerment there will be a circumambulation of the Tharpa Cho Ling land.  The parade will consist of persons blowing conches, ringing bells, bearing incense, holding banners, umbrellas, statues and 12 volumes of the Prajnaparamita Sutra.  After the circumambulations are completed,  participants will sit down to a potluck feast.  The focus of the festival is World peace, loving kindness and the prayer that Maitreya will come quickly to this ravaged planet. THARPA CHO LING is Ewam Choden’s retreat center in Upper Lake, California.  It is described on the website home page. After it was created, a local sangha group formed around it. These members hold a weekly Saturday morning Chenrezig meditation in the beautiful shrine room.  Periodically, Lama Kunga Rinpoche goes there to lead the meditation, and occasionally gives empowerments.  This Maitreya Festival with an Empowerment is a rare opportunity.

completed–PRAYERS TO COMMEMORATE SACHEN KUNGA NYINGPO, Sunday, Nov. 13 at 7:00 pm

Ven. Lama Kunga Rinpoche and members of Ewam Choden will join the Tibetan Sakya Community for a memorial of the great Sachen Kunga Nyingpo (Tibetan: ས་ཆེན་ཀུན་དགའ་སྙིང་པོ་) on the day of his Parinirvana.    Everyone is welcome. The day is Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016. The starting time 7:00 pm. The location is Ewam Choden.

Sachen Kunga Nyingpo was the first of the great five patriarchs of the Sakya lineage. The son of Khon Konchok Gyalpo, he was the 3rd Sakya Trizin. He lived from 1092 to 1158.  When he was still a youth, meditating in retreat under the guidance of Bari Lotsawa, he saw Manjushri and received from him the teaching known as,  Lojong Shenpa Shidrel or Mind Training of Parting from the Four Attachments.

If you are attached to this life, you are not a true spiritual practitioner;
If you are attached to saṃsāra, you have no renunciation;
If you are attached to your own self-interest, you have no bodhicitta;
If there is grasping, you do not have the View.

The year is 2144, the female fire bird.

Ven. Lama Kunga Thartse Rinpoche will lead the usual Chenrezig compassion meditation and, following tradition, there will be special recitations and prayers.

The year is 2144.  Come to meditation at 10:00 a.m. as usual, receive Rinpoche’s blessing,  greet everyone for New Year,  and enjoy sweet rice, Tibetan tea, and some special Losar snacks.

Begtse (Sanskrit, Prana Atma) is a fierce protector (dharmapala) of the Sakyapa, and later associated with Mongolia. Begtse wears the armor of a warrior and is surrounded by the flames of pristine awareness.
