What is an Urban Retreat?

Shrine RoomAn urban retreat allows practioners a close-to-home opportunity to spend a weekend in deep practice under the instruction of Lama Kunga Rinpoche. This gives the practioner a chance to review the activities of a personal retreat, and to ask questions to the Lama in a group setting. This is an excellent preparation for doing your own private and extended retreats in the future. You must have the appropriate lineage empowerment to attend the retreats.
Two Day Retreats begins on Saturday led by Lama Kunga at 9:00 a.m. lasting until 4:30 p.m. The Sunday session begins with Chenresig Meditation at 10:00 p.m., and retreat to continure, and lasts until 4:30 p.m. There will be a 1 and 1/2 hour break for lunch each day.

The retreat is $10.00 each day to Ewam Choden members and $20.00 to non-members, to help defray the printing expenses.

Please remember it is traditionally expected that you will make an offering to the Lama at the end of the retreat. Ewam Choden membership details can be obtained by calling the center or visiting our website.

What to bring to the retreat?

An open heart and mind. If you have a mala and the appropriate practice text, please bring it. You may bring a notebook and writing instrument. Please do not bring recording equipment.

What to expect: You will be sitting for long periods of time. We provide basic meditation cushions, but you may bring your own favorite if you feel you will be more comfortable. Plan to bring your lunch, and consume it at the center. Please do not bring children to the retreat unless you have discussed it with Lama Kunga personally. We do not have facilities to leave children unattended, and the long quiet sessions may prove too taxing for them.

Please pre-register by calling the retreat contact person, so we will have enough retreat texts ready. Bring your usual practice text, and bell and dorje, if you have them, and a mala.
