Ewam Choden was established to provide an opportunity for the practice and study
of Tibetan religion and culture.
The basic meaning of Ewam is the integration of method and wisdom,
compassion and voidness. Choden simply means "possessing the dharma". We feel
that the union of compassion and wisdom is especially relevant for this age. |

Ewam Choden has been visited by His Holiness the Dalai Lama,
and the heads up three other major schools of Tibet, as well as many other
lamas. We continue to expand our practice on numerous levels. Students are
involved in translating Tibetan texts into English, and Rinpoche has worked
diligently in this area. Several students have developed skill in creating
traditional Buddhist ritual objects and images. The Center is also extremely
interested in maintaining close relations with the Tibetan community in India
and in the United States.

What is an Urban Retreat? An urban retreat allows practioners a close-to-home opportunity to spend a weekend in deep practice under the instruction of Lama Kunga Rinpoche. This gives the practioner a chance to review the activities of a personal retreat, and to ask questions to the Lama in a group setting. This is an excellent preparation for doing your own private and extended retreats in the future. You must have the appropriate lineage empowerment to attend the retreats. |

Lama Kunga Rinpoche, our resident teacher, gives empowerments and teachings on an ongoing basis. Empowerments are usually offered by Rinpoche on the fourth Sunday of every month. When in residence, Rinpoche teaches weekly classes on the Vajrayogini and Tara practices, on Mind Training on Thursdays, and on Sunday mornings Rinpoche leads the Chenrezig Meditation practice. And throughout his long tenure, he has offered various other teachings. .
Rinpoche has often offered a Tibetan Language class, most recently this past Summer 2007, in combination with Tara practice. There is discussion about when to schedule another class - please email us if you are interested. |
